To keep abreast of changing markets and student needs, the Departments of Business and Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering are adding course content and degree program options in the growing areas of supply chain management, supply chain engineering, and health care management and health care systems engineering.  Students can take these course offerings as part of a traditional MBA or Masters of Science program or as parts of an innovative new certificate offering.  Kettering has also joined the SAP University Alliance, which allows faculty and students to use of this market leading enterprise software package in undergraduate and graduate coursework.

With three hospitals and their accompanying healthcare networks in close proximity to Kettering University, now students in the Kettering Department of Business will have the opportunity to complete an MBA with a concentration in healthcare systems engineering or a Master of Science in Operations management with electives in health care management.  Comparable undergraduate coursework in Business and Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering is also available.

Healthcare course offerings now include a Healthcare Management course that focuses on business issues in healthcare delivery systems and networks. In Kettering’s new Healthcare Systems Engineering course, students are challenged to employ industrial engineering concepts in organizing and improving healthcare delivery systems.

Even more value is added to the programs because of the presence of three local hospitals.

“The local hospitals are very interested,” said Dr. Andrew S. Borchers, head of the Department of Business. “With growing interest in healthcare, this collaboration can be very good both for Kettering and for the hospitals.”

In the Supply Chain area, students can now pursue an MBA with a concentration in supply chain management or a Master of Science in Operations Management with electives in supply chain management. Utilizing SAP, Kettering’s new courses cover fundamental and advanced supply chain topics, and value creation through supply chains. Students can complement these new courses with existing courses in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Lean/Six Sigma and other business and industrial engineering courses.  The Department of Business also added a new faculty member, Larry Navarre, to teach Supply Chain Management courses.

Kettering is also introducing a new series of certificate programs.  Students have the opportunity to pursue a three course graduate certificate in Healthcare Systems Engineering, Healthcare Management, Supply Chain Management, Global Leadership, and Green Business.  Certificate programs are ideal for students that either want to “try out” Kettering Graduate programs before enrolling in a degree program or that have already completed a masters degree and want to learn about a new area. “There are more certificate programs coming,” Borchers said. “There is broad interest in this sort of program.”
