Baja SAE
Kettering University participates in Baja SAE competitions throughout the year, an intercollegiate design competition run by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Teams of students from universities all over the world design and build small off-road cars.
What we do
In Baja SAE, we are tasked with designing and building a single-seater off-road vehicle from scratch, with most manufacturing done in the SAE garage on campus. During competitions, our vehicle's durability and performance are tested in a wide range of environments and our design decisions are graded by technical judges. The business aspects of our build are also judged in competitions. For instance, we are given a hypothetical scenario of a manufacturer creating this vehicle as a one-off prototype that would be mass-produced. This requires us to consider cost reduction, scalability and marketing. On the surface, it might look like a club for mechanical engineers, but Baja SAE welcomes students from all majors.
