“We’re excited to participate in #GivingTuesday and encourage everyone in the Kettering community to support something they’re passionate about.”
Kettering University will join more than 10,000 partner non-profit organizations around the world in participating in #GivingTuesday on Dec. 2.
#GivingTuesday is a worldwide day dedicated to encouraging people to give back and celebrate philanthropy and generosity. Kettering is hoping to encourage 365 donors -- one for each day of the year -- to support a wide range of programs and initiatives, including student organizations and scholarship funds.
“We’re excited to participate in #GivingTuesday and encourage everyone in the Kettering community to support something they’re passionate about,” said Susan Davies, Kettering University vice president for University Advancement and External Relations. “The intent is simply participation -- there are a wide range of opportunities to support Kettering students, including scholarship funds, facilities improvements and student activities that will make a tangible impact in the lives of our students on a daily basis in and out of the classroom.”
Gifts can be made through Kettering’s Network for Good web page. On the page, donors can select via dropdown menu what they’d like their contribution to support. Options include the AIM and LITE pre-college programs, FIRST Robotics scholarships, the Keep Me Kettering Scholarship, the SAE and DECA teams, Atwood Stadium and KUSARA, among other options.
Student organizations with funds that can be supported will be recruiting donors in the Great Court during the lunch hour. Donations can be made on the spot, either via computers that will be setup in the Great Court or there will be envelopes and forms available to make cash donations.
Alumni ambassadors are also participating by encouraging their peers through email and social media to support Kettering University on #GivingTuesday. Supporters will be supplied with a Kettering University #GivingTuesday profile image that they can use on their Facebook or Twitter pages on Dec. 2 to show that they’ve participated and encourage others to make contributions.
All donors participating are encouraged to share their support on social media using the #GivingTuesday hashtag.
“#GivingTuesday is an amazing social campaign that unites people around the world around a very simple ideal -- supporting causes they are passionate about,” Davies said. “It’s a great opportunity to join with millions of people in a day devoted to giving and generosity.”
