The annual Kettering University Homecoming Car Show returns on May 16 this year with a new twist -- cars from the great Flint community can now enter the show as well.

“Car shows are a great Kettering tradition, and our yearly Homecoming car show honors that legacy,” said Steve Bandurski, Kettering University director of alumni engagement. “What better way to continue to expand the show than by including entries from the many car clubs and car enthusiasts in Flint, the Vehicle City?”

The Homecoming Car Show was re-launched in 2013, but car shows have long been part of Kettering University’s history. The first GMI/Kettering car show took place in 1964. During the first Homecoming Car Show in 2013, Dave Langdon ‘65 displayed his 1941 Buick, which he also displayed at the first show at Kettering when he was a student in 1964.

This year’s car show will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, in the pool area outside the Campus Center Building. The show is open to all makes and models of cars, trucks and motorcycles. Unrestored and in-process vehicles are also encouraged to enter.

Awards will be presented in categories that include People’s Choice, Antique (1960 and older), Classic (1961-81), Modern (1981-2014), Motorcycle and Student Vehicle. There is also a special category recognizing Professor Reg Bell’s Favorite. All advance registrations will receive a dash plaque.

Advanced registration fee is $10 per vehicle, or $5 per student vehicle. Registration the day of the show are $15 each. All proceeds benefit Kettering University’s SAE teams.

There will also be a number of other attractions for guests during the car show, including:

• Inflatables, face-pointing, games and other family fun activities;
• A FIRST Robotics demonstration;
• An outdoor Innovation Quest challenge for Kettering students;
• Lunch, refreshments and beer available for purchase in B.J.’s Lounge.
