Flint area high school students, 9th-11th graders, sought for mentoring program at Kettering University

Kettering University’s Kagle Leadership Initiatives seeks Flint area high school students for the University’s one-on-one mentoring program.

To be eligible for this opportunity, students must be in grades 9 - 11 and attend a Flint area high school. Ideal participants have aspirations of attending college, maintain a 3.0 GPA, be a potential leader, have an interest in community service and a willingness to grow and learn. Mentees need not be interested in engineering or attending Kettering University to apply.

Programming for the Kagle Leadership Initiatives includes plenty of fun while engaging in learning activities. The program focuses on community service, tutoring and academic assistance, cultural and arts exploration, social and professional development, and career exploration. This year, there are plans to go horseback riding, tubing and a visit to the Holocaust museum among other things.

Award presented to Kagle Leadership Initiatives program

The Kagle Leadership Initiatives at Kettering University was recently presented with a Community Leadership Award from Richfield Public School Academy. The award was signed by Flint Mayor Dayne Walling, recognizing the great work that was done through the community workshops facilitated by Kettering students.

The START (Successful Tools for Achieving Realistic Targets) program targets 8th graders transitioning into 9th grade, giving them necessary tools to aid in their success. Workshops include: Goal Setting, Time Management, Dealing with Peer Pressure, Self-Esteem and Your Values, Respect and Diversity.

The Kagle Leadership Initiatives (formerly known as the Kagle Mentoring Program) is a program that benefits the students and families of the Flint community. The program originally started as a one-on- one mentoring program for high school students. It has evolved to include community tutoring and community workshops.
