The brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon celebrated the construction of a new $1.5 million fraternity house near Kettering University during groundbreaking ceremony Feb. 19.

The new ΣAE fraternity house will be located at 1509 University, on the corner of University and Mathewson, two blocks east of Kettering.

“This is a major step forward for the Michigan Epsilon chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and for Kettering University,” said Sam Hoff ’90, president of the Michigan Epsilon Housing Corporation.  “ΣAE has a proud history of academic achievement, campus leadership, community involvement and lifelong friendships among its brothers.  With this project, we will build on our past and look to a dynamic new future for ΣAE at Kettering,” he added.

ΣAE’s new fraternity house will sit on a 1.27 acre corner lot and has 7,200 square feet on two stories. It also features a 3,600 square foot walk out basement.  The new facility can house up to 31 ΣAE brothers.  There will be a commercial-grade kitchen for student dining.

A state-of-the-art fire and security system were incorporated into the design for student safety. Energy efficiency and maintenance free construction practices will ensure that the house will maintain its curb appeal and cost less for future ΣAEs. Completion of the new fraternity house is set for October 2010.
