“This is exactly the type of major event we envisioned when we took ownership of Atwood Stadium.”
Kettering University’s Atwood Stadium will host the inaugural Vehicle City Gridiron Class to kickoff the 2017 high school football season on Thursday, August 24.
The classic will feature a triple-header featuring the following games between teams across Genesee County:
- 1 p.m. - Goodrich vs. Bendle
- 4 p.m. - Flushing vs. Linden
- 7 p.m. - Carman-Ainsworth vs. Grand Blanc
The classic was organized by the Flint Genesee Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Kettering University and each of the school districts participating in the grand event.
“We are excited to be able to partner with the Chamber, the community and these six local schools to bring what will become a major yearly tradition to Kettering University’s Atwood Stadium – the Vehicle City Gridiron Classic,” said Kettering University President Dr. Robert K. McMahan. “This is exactly the type of major event we envisioned when we took ownership of Atwood Stadium in 2013 and completed a major renovation and reopened the stadium in 2015.”
Since renovating and reopening Atwood Stadium in 2015, the historic venue has hosted nearly 40,000 visitors for collegiate, intramural, high school and youth sporting events coordinated by various organizations in the Flint community.
“We would like to invite the entire greater Flint community to come out, watch these teams and be a part of the beginning of a new tradition at Kettering University’s Atwood Stadium,” McMahan said. “The Vehicle City Gridiron Classic will continuously grow and add to the immensely rich athletic history in Flint and at Atwood Stadium.”
