“The goal is to make University Avenue a can’t-miss place to visit during the holiday season. This is another great way that Kettering and our neighbors in the corridor are teaming up.”
University Avenue has become a lot brighter as part of the University Avenue Corridor Coalition’s (UACC) ‘Light up the Avenue’ contest.
To celebrate the holidays, residents and businesses in the University Avenue Corridor near campus are encouraged to decorate homes and buildings with lights and decorations.
“The goal is to make University Avenue a can’t-miss place to visit during the holiday season,” said Jack Stock, Kettering University director of external relations. “This is another great way that Kettering and our neighbors in the corridor are teaming up to build community spirit in the city of Flint.”
Kettering students are also providing volunteer hours to decorate public places in the corridor as well as help residents who need assistance in decorating their homes. Students from Beta Theta Pi hung decorations along light poles on University Avenue earlier this month.
Decorations and lights began going up on November 30 and participants are encouraged to keep them hanging through January 9. Prizes will be awarded to select participating residents.
Kettering University will be decorating the exterior of Atwood Stadium and Flint’s Downtown Development Authority is also lending lights and other decorations to the project.
