FIRST Robotics, LITE led graduate to Kettering University: When Team 217 encountered Team 51 at the national FIRST World Championship in Atlanta in 2010, a mentoring relationship was formed. Ken Patton, mentor to Wings of Fire (Team 51) noticed Hayley Schuller ‘14 working as a member of the pit crew for the Thunderchickens (Team 217). Patton’s acknowledgment of her problem-solving abilities during the competition developed into a mentoring relationship between the two and eventually led Schuller to Kettering University and General Motors (GM). Passion for motorcycles had turned into a business for graduate: The year was 1971 and the journey was American. Upon graduating from Kettering University (then General Motors Institute), Roger Sears and a seven of his closest friends from campus hopped on their motorcycles and began a two-week trek from Flint to California while stopping along the most American of institutions along the way. DECA students win state championship: Fourteen Kettering University students captured 13 awards at Collegiate DECA’s State Career Development Conference in Battle Creek, Michigan, Feb. 6-8. Four placed first, one placed second, four placed in third and four received honorable mentions. Read more.
Model UN team earns honors at national competition: A 16-member delegation made up of students from the Kettering University Model United Nations Club attended the National Model United Nations Competition at Harvard University from February 12-15 and for the first time in its history, came home with a prize. Founder of Engineers Without Borders helped Kettering celebrate Engineers Week: Founding President of Engineers Without Borders/USA Dr. Bernard Amadei kicked off National Engineers Week at Kettering University by delivering a keynote address entitled, “Global Engineering for a Small Planet: A Vision of Success” on Feb. 23. Student post: Cars, school and more cars!: Being an A-Section student, I have classes during the first three months of the year. While that means taking 20 credit hours and occasionally running on a few hours of sleep, it also means that I am in positon to enjoy some of the benefits of being a Kettering University student, which include free admission to the industry preview of the North American International Auto Show and being near the SAE garage.
