Kettering University has named Dr. Scott Reeve as the founding Dean of Graduate School and Research.

In this new role at Kettering, Reeve will be responsible for revitalizing current graduate programs, creating exciting new on-campus graduate programs and providing leadership and oversight for the research mission of the University.

“I am very excited to join the Kettering Community,” Reeve said. “This an exciting time to be at Kettering University and to be a part of the tremendous growth and development occurring as well as help build on this institution’s amazing academic and research legacy.”

Among Reeve’s responsibilities will be nurturing and enhancing a culture of research collaboration, both among Kettering faculty and with external public and private partners while also developing new graduate programs that align with and support faculty research.

“Dr. Reeve is a tremendous addition to Kettering University,” said Dr. James Zhang, Kettering University Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Dr. Reeve is an accomplished researcher and a respected administrative leader who will enhance the University’s outstanding reputation as a leading applied research institution.”

Reeve completed his Ph.D. in Chemical Physics at the University of Minnesota in 1992, then accepted an Office of Naval Research Postdoctoral Fellowship to study and characterize diamond thin film growth in a plasma jet at the Naval Air Warfare Research Center in China Lake, California.

In 1994, he accepted a tenure-track position at Arkansas State University (ASTATE). He was promoted to Associate Professor of Chemistry in 1998 and tenured the following year. Along with four colleagues, he was a founding member of the Arkansas Center for Laser Applications and Science (ArCLAS) at ASTATE in 2005. To date, ArCLAS has received more than $10 Million in external funding and its laboratories represent one of the premier laser research facilities in the Mid South region.

Reeve starts his position at Kettering University on July 1, 2016.
