Kettering University has named Dr. Craig Hoff as the founding Dean of the College of Engineering.
In this new role at Kettering, Hoff will oversee the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering and Department of Mechanical Engineering.
“I am delighted to appoint Dr. Hoff as Founding Dean of College of Engineering,” said Dr. James Zhang, Kettering University Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Dr. Hoff has demonstrated outstanding leadership through years of service to the institution, and I look forward to working closely with him to continue to enhance this University’s tremendous reputation.”
Hoff, who has been a Kettering University faculty member since 1999, is currently the Department Head in Mechanical Engineering. Previously, he’d served in teaching and administrative roles at Lawrence Technological University.
“Kettering University’s engineering programs have an impressive legacy and national reputation for producing highly successful graduates,” Hoff said. “I am excited to continue serving Kettering University in this expanded role. There are many new and exciting opportunities for Kettering as we try to work to meet the rapidly changing needs of our industry partners. I look forward to working with our talented faculty and students to meet these needs.”
Kettering’s Mechanical Engineering program has been consistently ranked among the top 10 programs in the country, according to U.S. News and World Report. Most recently, the Mechanical Engineering program was ranked 7th and Kettering’s overall engineering program was ranked 15th among all engineering universities in the 2016 rankings.
Hoff’s expertise is in energy systems, automotive powertrains, in-vehicle data acquisition, and design for the environment. In addition to serving in faculty and administrative roles at Kettering, Hoff has been a longtime advisor to the University’s Formula SAE team.
