The Kettering University Model United Nations (KMUN) team had an impressive showing at the annual American Model United Nations International Conference from November 19-22 in Chicago.

This year, Kettering’s delegation represented the country of Egypt on a wide array of global issues such as the situation in Aleppo and historical crisis simulations.

“I’m happy that we’ve been able to provide such a thought-provoking experience to so many new students this year,” said Mitchell Shepherd ‘20, KMUN President. “We received so many compliments for our team’s behavior, social abilities, and candor, and it leaves me both stunned and proud for this year’s team.”

Kettering was proud to receive the Outstanding Delegate Award for exceptional representation of Egypt at this year’s conference.

“Kettering’s exceptional performance at this year’s conference is a testament to the unique problem solving strategies possessed by students from a STEM focused school,” said Paul Stephens ‘20, KMUN Vice-President. “Kettering delegates were not only able to analyze the root causes of global issues, but also capable of articulating their understandings persuasively to other delegations.”

Kettering delegates were also given the rare opportunity to represent Egypt on both the AMUN Current Security Council, along with the AMUN Historical Security Council.

“Working with and understanding the viewpoints of people and their countries was an educational experience I'm sure to use in the future,” said Alex Irwin.

In February 2017, the KMUN team will be sending a delegation to the prestigious Harvard Model U.N. Conference in Boston. Each of these conferences furthers the team’s goal of improving the diplomatic ability of participants while inspiring increased participation in the political process.
