The meeting was attended by student and senior section officers of Saginaw Valley Section of ASME.

The award was presented to Echempati by Dr. Nael Barakat, professor of Mechanical Engineering at Grand Valley State University and the District B Leader of ASME.

“Being a member of ASME has helped me build a strong network with professionals at conferences and meetings,” Echempati said. “It has helped me develop leadership skills by working with senior and student members of our section as well as with members of other districts of ASME.”

Echempati is the chair of the Saginaw Valley Section of ASME and also a member of District Operating Board (DOB) of District B of ASME.

In 1999, Echempati attained the membership grade of Fellow of ASME. He was the first in GMI/Kettering University history to attain that status. He has been a member of ASME for 25 years, joining in 1987.
