Ricky Brown, director of Pre-College Programs in the Office of Multicultural Student Initiatives at Kettering University, will receive the Genesee District Library Award of Excellence and be honored during the Genesee District Library’s 2010 Black History Month Brunch in February. The award is presented to individuals who make a difference in the lives of Genesee County residents by excelling in their field.
“This means a lot to me,” Brown said. “It brings me joy. I want to sow as many good seeds in this community and country while I have the time,” he explained, “because I just love it when my harvest comes in.”
The event is at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Genesys Conference & Banquet Center. As part of the honor, Brown will be profiled on ABC affiliate WJRT-TV 12.
Award winning playwright, author and poet Pearl Cleage will provide the keynote address during the 2010 Black History Month Brunch. There also will be a special musical performance by three-time Grammy Award winning gospel artist, Dorinda Clark-Cole of the legendary Clark Sisters.
Tickets are available by contacting Marilyn Brown at 810-230-3328.
