Sustainability Management

This is just one aspect you will learn about in our Sustainability Management concentration.

In addition to completing the core management program, you will get to choose from a variety of electives in an interdisciplinary program with a focus on social sustainability (social sciences, humanities), environmental sustainability (biology, ecology, chemistry, energy), and economic sustainability (business, economics, entrepreneurship). This concentration leads to a Bachelor of Science in Management and invaluable hands-on experience in the workplace in preparation to take on leadership roles.

You will graduate having already applied such skills and knowledge, because of your participation in Kettering’s co-op program. During your time at Kettering, you will spend 22 weeks on campus taking classes and 24 weeks working with an employer, picking up real world, hands-on experience in business working with partners such as Bosch Corporation, Ford Motor Company and LG Electronics.

In practical terms, sustainability is composed of three pillars -- social, environmental, and economic -- also known informally as people, planet, and profits, or the triple bottom line. Sustainability encourages businesses to frame decisions in terms of environmental, social, and human impact for the long-term, rather than on short-term gains.

The demand is increasing for employees and future leaders who not only understand what sustainability is but how to apply it in business.

An increasing number of companies, industries, communities, governments, non-profit organizations, and research organizations/laboratories around the world are exploring sustainable development and integrating sustainability into their business strategy. They are creating more opportunities for people who can take creative approaches to finding sustainable solutions.

Median salaries range from nearly $100,000 for general managers to higher than $150,000 for chief executive officers.

The program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs.
