Alumni Email Accounts Closing
ALUMNI EMAIL ACCOUNTS CLOSING THIS JANUARY 2025
Kettering University and the Kettering/GMI Alumni Association offer many benefits to alumni, but one will soon be changing. Due to Google's new terms that limit the amount of email storage, the University can no longer offer lifetime alumni email accounts so we will sunset most alumni email accounts at the beginning of January 2025.
Why are we ending Alumni Email Accounts?
- Google’s New Terms. The University uses a service provided by Google. Google no longer offers unlimited storage. The storage is needed for students, faculty, and staff members.
- Staff Resources: Maintaining and updating alumni accounts is time intensive and involves multiple staff members across divisions, including IT, Alumni, Advancement Services, and the Registrar’s Office.
- Security: Maintaining inactive email accounts causes security risks.
Next Steps for Alumni and Graduates
- Please provide the University with a personal email address here. Providing a personal email account, such as Gmail or Hotmail, will ensure you receive all communications from Kettering University. Kettering emails sent to business emails like @GM are routinely blocked or bounced by company firewalls.
- Notify your contacts of your new email address.
- Update your subscriptions and services: Transfer any subscriptions and services (e.g., financial institutions, utility companies, Apple, Spotify, Netflix, etc.) to an alternate email address.
- Preserve your data
- Option 1: For information on downloading data from your Google account: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/3024190?hl=en
- Option 2: For information on transferring data from one Google account to another Google account: https://takeout.google.com/transfer?pli=1
How will this affect recent graduates or Kettering students preparing to graduate?
All students will have access to their student email account for two months following graduation. Students must add a personal email on file with the University when they register for graduation. They can also fill out the alumni contact form here.
What if I use my alumni email as a member of the Kettering University Board of Trustees, Kettering/GMI Alumni Association Board, Academic Advisory Board, or Alumni Campaign Committee?
Trustees, KGMIAA Board Members, or alumni serving in volunteer leadership roles on an advisory board or campaign committee may request a temporary alumni email while serving as an active member of a board or committee. Alumni emails may be created on a case-by-case basis.
How can I obtain a copy of my transcript?
Kettering University has partnered with the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) to provide a secure online transcript ordering service. To order your transcript, visit: https://www.kettering.edu/academics/academic-services/transcripts
