ALUMNI EMAIL ACCOUNTS CLOSING
ALUMNI EMAIL ACCOUNTS CLOSING
ALUMNI EMAIL ACCOUNTS NOW CLOSING MARCH 31, 2025
Kettering University and the Kettering/GMI Alumni Association offer many benefits to alumni, but one will soon be changing. Due to Google's new terms that limit the amount of email storage, the University can no longer offer lifetime alumni email accounts, so we will sunset alumni email accounts at the end of March 2025.
Why are we ending Alumni Email Accounts?
- Security: Maintaining inactive email accounts causes security risks.
- Google’s New Terms. The University uses a service provided by Google. Google no longer offers unlimited storage. The storage is needed for students, faculty, and staff members.
Next Steps
- Please provide the University with a personal email address here. Providing a personal email account, such as Gmail or Hotmail, will ensure you receive all communications from Kettering University. Kettering emails sent to business emails like @GM are routinely blocked or bounced by company firewalls.
- Notify your contacts of your new email address.
- Update your subscriptions and services: Transfer any subscriptions and services (e.g., financial institutions, utility companies, Apple, Spotify, Netflix, etc.) to an alternate email address.
Tips on How to Preserve your Data
- Option 1: Download the data from your Google account.
- Option 2: Transfer your data to another Google account.
- (Make sure that you are logging into your Kettering account, and not the account you are trying to transfer to.)
- Directions for Google Takeout
- Step 1: Select data to include. Go to the Google Takeout page while using Chrome (recommended browser). ...
- Step 2: Customize your download archive format. ...
- Step 3: Retrieve your Google data archive. ...
- Step 4: Open, save and check your Google data archive. ...
- Step 5: Delete files from your @Kettering Google account.
How will this affect recent graduates or Kettering students preparing to graduate?
All students will have access to their student email account for two months following graduation. Students will need to add a personal email on file with the University when they register for graduation. For alumni continuing your education at Kettering, your email will remain active if you are a registered student.
What if I graduated as an international student?
We understand that many international student graduates need to maintain their accounts due to documentation and visa purposes, so these accounts will remain active for the next three years. For students graduating in 2025 and beyond, Information Technology will work with the Office of International Programs relating to email addresses and an appropriate transition that aligns with your Visa processes.
