The Office of Multicultural Student Initiatives provides services for the following student organizations:

National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)                                      NSBE logo

NSBE is comprised of more than 270 chapters on college and university campuses, 75 Alumni Extension chapters nationwide and 75 Pre-College chapters. These chapters are geographically divided into six regions.

NSBE’s Mission:

Increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.

NSBE's Objectives:

  • Stimulate and develop student interest in the various engineering disciplines.
  • Strive to increase the number of minority students studying engineering at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Encourage members to seek advanced degrees in engineering or  related fields and to obtain professional engineering.
  • Encourage and advise minority youth in their pursuit of an engineering career.
  • Promote public awareness of engineering and the opportunities for Blacks and other minorities in that profession.
  • Function as a representative body on issues and developments that affect the careers of Black Engineers.

Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)              SHPE logo           

 SHPE is the leading Hispanic student social-technical organization whose primary function is to enhance and achieve the potential of its members in engineering, math and science. We will fulfill our mission by increasing educational opportunities, promoting professional and personal growth, and carrying out our social responsibility to be involved in education, business and government issues.  SHPE is open to students of all backgrounds.  Meetings are held in the SHPE room on the 5th floor of the Campus Center.  A section meet every Thursday during lunch and B-section meet every Friday during lunch.

SHPE’s Mission:                                                              

  • Promote the development of Hispanics in engineering, science and other technical professions; and
  • Achieve the potential of Hispanics in engineering, math and science.

Black Unity Congress (BUC)                                                               

BUC organizes activities to unify, stimulate and educate students about African-American awareness and other cultures.

BUC’s Mission:

  • Promote Black awareness at Kettering University.
  • Provide social and cultural awareness to the Kettering community.
  • Provide educational support to the membership.
  • Increase diversity within the Kettering community.
