Financial aid comes in many forms including federal and state aid, scholarships, institutional aid and loans.
Federal student aid is need-based. That means it doesn't discriminate by any factor apart from financial need. Eligibility is based solely on the assets and income of the prospective student and his or her family.
Applying for loans may seem confusing at first because college loans can come from a number of sources. Loans are either direct student loans (government-based) or private. No matter which type of loan, you should start the application process four to six weeks prior to the start of your academic term.
