Avoiding Winmail.dat Issues

If you find yourself getting calls saying your attachment has come across as a "winmail.dat" file and is unreadable, here is how you correct the problem.

  1. Open Outlook, and then click on "tools" and then "options".
  2. Click on the "mail format" tab. Set your mail format to either plain text or html. Do not use "rich text". This is what causes the winmail.dat file to appear.
