Kettering University celebrates the holidays in many ways.
Kettering University celebrates the holidays in many ways. The Kettering community will once again adopt the YWCA SafeHouse and Carriage Town Ministries for the 2002 Giving Tree. This program supports children and families in making their holiday special by providing gifts and other support.
Last year, holiday gifts for 104 children, in addition to monetary donations, were provided to the two organizations. The GivingTree will be in the Great Court of the Campus Center and decorated with ornaments that contain the name, age, gender and a "wish list" item and clothing size for individual children. Kettering encourages faculty and staff to select an ornament, purchase the item, wrap and attach the ornament to the gift and place it under the tree.
Contributions can also be made by inserting a check into a contribution envelope available at the tree. Please make checks payable to YWCA Safe House, Carriage Town Ministries, or The Giving Tree.
Kettering will also offer Santa's Sample Sack. Employees can donate sample/trial size personal items such as shampoo, toothpaste, tooth brushes, combs and other items. Individuals who wish to participate may contact Bruce Deitz of the Library at (810) 762-9841. Please provide all contributions to the Giving Tree Committee by Dec. 17.
In related news, Kettering will host the Children's Holiday Party Saturday, Dec. 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Great Court and Sunset Room of the Campus Center. Activities will include a holiday craft and face painting. Children and families can also take photos with Santa (Dr. John), enjoy story hour with Mrs. Claus, and refreshments. To volunteer your assistance with this event and/or register your children, e-mail Sue Blondin of the Administration and Finance Dept. at firstname.lastname@example.org. They're always on the lookout for a few good elves!
