Electrification of the Automobile: 12 volts to 42 volts to CE Hybrids to Fuel Cells

Course Description

This course will cover the evolution of the application of electric power in the automobile and electric power in the home and identify those conditions that could lead to convergence of these two applicaions. Many technical, economic and political challenges to this convergence are described.

Course Objectives

At the completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Describe the challenges to electric power generation and explain how fuel cells can help meet those challenges.
• Think creatively about the future of the automobile and how fuel cells can expand the utility of automobiles in our society.
• Identify the major political steps that must be taken to accelerate the adoption of fuel cells in automobiles.
• Describe the major technical hurdles that must be overcome to reach fuel cell traction drive in automobiles.

Intended Audience

This course is intended for individuals who have direct or indirect responsibility for automotive or electric power systems, including decision-makers, managers at all levels, accountants, engineers, manufacturing personnel, technical, and marketing employees.
