Step 1: Pay the SEVIS fee and schedule your student visa interview.
To pay the SEVIS fee, please visit the U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement website and follow the instructions provided.
Once the fee is paid, visit the website of the United States Embassy in your country in order to begin the steps necessary to obtain a F1 student visa. If you are not sure if you require a student visa, or which type of visa applies to you, contact the admissions office.
If you are currently an international student on a F1 visa in the United States, complete the Transfer Visa Form and take it to your current student advisor. He or She will transfer your SEVIS record to Kettering University, we will then print a new I-20 form and mail it to you. If you plan to leave the country, we encourage you to apply and obtain a new F1 visa prior to returning to the United States. Otherwise, keep your new I-20 form with you and bring it to the Office of International Programs when you arrive at Kettering for International Student Orientation.
Step 2: Send in your Enrollment Deposit
Please confirm your enrollment and secure your place in the class by submitting the $300 Enrollment Deposit. You may pay your enrollment deposit by one of the following methods:
- PeerTransfer (using your own country currency to transfer a payment directly to Kettering)
- E-cashier (Discover or MasterCard only - follow payment instructions on the site)
- Mail a check (drawn in US dollars from a United States Bank only) payable to Kettering University to:
Office of Admission
1700 University Avenue
Flint, MI 48504.
- Please include the student's complete name and address on the check.
You must use the login information provided by the Admissions Office in order to complete the following steps.
Step 3: Complete and submit your Housing Contract & Wellness/Medical Form
All incoming students are expected to reside on campus and have a full meal plan for the academic portion of their first year at Kettering University. Please complete and submit the New Student Housing Contract and the Thompson Hall Housing Assignment Information Form. For more information, contact our Residence Hall Office at +1 (810) 762-9503.
Health and Medical History Form
Kettering University requires all students to submit proof of health insurance once each academic year. Upon receipt of an enrollment deposit, we provide all new students with complete information regarding health insurance policies and procedures, including requirements for our verification process. Note that students who fail to provide proof of health insurance each year by the designated deadline date (which we will communicate prior to enrollment) will automatically be enrolled in AIG's Student Health & Accident Insurance Program and billed accordingly. The 2013-14 cost is $1,260.00.
Kettering's health and counseling services are free to all students. However, if a student is in need of a referral for a medical specialist, lab work, x-rays, specialized medical procedures or an emergency outside of our center, either the student and/or the student's insurance company will be responsible for the cost.
Please complete the Health and Medical History Form and return it to the university via mail, fax or email. Immunizations must be up to date. A TB test is required.
Step 4: Take the On-line Math Placement exam.
All entering students who have not received transfer credit or Advanced Placement credit for the first calculus course, Math 101, are required to take the Mathematics Placement (MP) exam. The linked page contains more information on how to access the exam and to learn more about the Math 099 online refresher course.
Step 5: Finalize your arrival plans.
The International Orientation Program is mandatory for all incoming international students. The program takes place on the week prior to the first day of classes. For the Fall term of 2013, the orientation program will begin on: October 1, 2013
Plan on arriving between September 30 and October 1, 2013. Note that a day of rest is already built in the Orientation Program and the residence hall will not be open prior to September 30, therefore, we recommend that you do not arrive before that date.
Kettering will arrange the transportation between Flint’s airport (Bishop International – FNT) and the campus. Once you have finalized your travel plans, please contact Fred Silva with your travel information. Unfortunately, Kettering cannot provide transportation between the Detroit Metro Airport and Flint.
